Nature Inspired Thanksgiving Table | Create and Share Challenge

nature inspired thanksgiving table

Setting my table is not a normal occurrence in my daily routine.  Although we eat every meal at our kitchen table, it’s very casual.  Plus, our kitchen table is our dining table, so there’s not a place to set up and decorate a table that sits untouched.  Instead, it’s the same table that my 2-year-old and 4-year-old sit at to eat their meals.  And eating meals also means spilling food all over the table runner, and trying to eat the acorns.

Because of all this toddler nonsense, I don’t normally decorate my table.  In fact, this is the first tablescape I’ve every created.  I was able to finally take the plunge to decorate it because I’m in such great company with a fabulous group of DIYers, hosted by Casa Watkins, who are each creating their own Thanksgiving table settings, too.   At the end of this post, you can head on over to check out some of the other tablescapes.  Be sure to tell them I sent you!

For my table, I needed to stick with my thrifty, natural, vintage roots and bring you a table that cost very little to create, with some upcycled creations.

The table runner is made from my dad’s old flannel shirts and one of my old sweaters.  You can read all about how I created it here.

I thought it would be neat to made little chalkboards for every place setting – a place for people to write something they are thankful for.  All I did was use my favorite type of chalkboard paint (I wrote a post comparing the different types here) to paint two coats onto vintage sterling silver trays I found at thrift stores.

I added vintage enamelware in each place setting, and as a holder for the chalk.

I also used my glittered pine cone placeholders and my gold and glittered acorns to add some shimmer to the natural elements.  Otherwise, everything on the table is straight from nature.

Clearly, this table isn’t set for a massive family gathering, but for now, it’s just enough for my family of four.

  1. Jenny, I can’t believe you made a runner with your Dad’s shirts! Such a wonderful way to keep your family memories and a great add to your table. Love the thankful chalkboard plates!! I think I would just keep writing it so I could use and and erase them. Great conversation starters as well. Pinning and Sharing!
