I admitted it when I last decorated my mantel for Easter – I’m not very good at this. I’ve had a mantel for nine years, and only decorated it for Christmas, in the same way every year. I’ve actually never been very good at decorating for holidays, but I’m trying to improve.
And the only way to improve is to actually give it a go. A few other bloggers (who are way better at this decorating thing than I am!) have joined in on the fun, and we are all decorating a mantel or table for the season.
I designed my mantel around our backyard harvest for this year. We have mini pumpkins coming out of our ears (from only one plant) and quite a few butternut squash. I managed to use both of them in the design.
I found that vintage screen at my local ReStore for $1, and sewed doilies that I’ve been hoarding up from different estate sales to create a little piece of art. I’ll share the complete tutorial soon!
I still have no idea of the “rules” for spatial arrangement of items, but the way I look at it is that it looks much better than it did yesterday.
Wondering how I created that fireplace screen? (It’s insulating and removable!) Check it out here.
