Easily Update Canvas Frames with Fabric and Paper

paper wrapped canvas frames 2Let me start by saying that this project is not a new idea, but it is one that can update a space quickly and inexpensively.  Now, that’s my type of DIY project, so I thought it would be a perfect little project to share with you all.

canvas wrapped frames beforeI purchased these canvas frames from Michael’s when I first moved into my house nine years ago, and I am embarrassed to say that I was the artist who designed and painted those beautiful pieces of art.  (I’d rather say I just found them that way at a thrift store, but it’s simply not the truth.)  They actually hung up in my home for eight years too long, until I finally got around to painting the room and knew they needed to go.

update canvas framesI found some wrapping paper, fabric, and decorative paper and figured out the arrangement of the frames.

canvas wrapped frames with fabricBecause the original color was dark, I first wrapped each frame in white butcher paper, to make sure none of the original pattern showed through.

canvas wrapped frames with paperI wrapped each canvas in paper or fabric, stapled the edges, and wrapped the corners like a present.

paper wrapped canvas framesI love that the papers have various textures – it just adds that extra visual interest to my new “artwork”.
